1SA 2019 - 2020
Welcome to 1SA's class page!
Hi my name is Miss Allan and this is my fifth year teaching at Offley Primary Academy and it is my second year teaching Year 1, which I am thoroughly excited about. I coordinate Science with Mrs Till and we are already looking forward to our next Science week here at Offley. I am passionate about embracing practical opportunities for the children to expand their learning by making lessons fun. At home I love spending time with my two dogs; especially my pug Darcy, I also thoroughly enjoy craft projects. 1SA is also very lucky to have Mrs Perry spending some time in our class during the week. Each week I will update our class page and share 1SA's learning journey with you all.
1SA’s P.E slots take place on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their P.E. kit for each of these days.
Children are prompted to change their reading book each day, if they have read their book. We encourage children to read at least four times a week and they will receive a sticker for this, consistent reading each week will enable children to receive the reading treat at the end of term.
We have had a super week here in 1SA!
In maths we have been exploring 2d and 3d shapes. We began with exploring common 3d shapes: cylinder, cube, cuboid, sphere, cone and pyramid. We then hunted the classroom for 3d shapes such as our water bottles and apples.
We then moved onto exploring common 2d shapes: square, circle, triangle, rectangle and square. We had lots of fun sorting the shapes based on their properties.
After that, we created our own repeated patterns using 2d shapes. We then discussed our patterns with our friends, changing the colours, size and shapes.
In English, be have been busy story mapping Nibbles The Book Monster. We then used our story mapping to retell the mischief Nibbles had been up to.
In science, we looked at our weather chart data and created a block graph. We discussed the most popular, least popular and our favourite type of weather.
In art, we developed our collage skills further. We used a range of paper types along with Paul Klee artwork to create wonderful collages. We then created our own Paul Klee inspired artwork, applying our shape knowledge too.
