5SM 2021 - 2022
Welcome to 5SM/DE
Where did the week go? Must admit - I like the 4 day week.
We have almost finished our art work, ‘Bridge over the water lily pond by Monet'. They all look amazing. We spent a lot of time discussing how we build up the levels to create depth in the painting.
Computing - Mr Mason has been looking at the design of Apps this week.
English - We have tried this week to get to grips with parenthesis so we could add extra information to our writing. We listened to a very catchy song to remember how to use them.
Maths - Our week on short division made us work hard. I am so pleased with how the class persevered with the work. Lots of success this week.
PE - We will be the next UK Rounders team. We had a really exciting game on Thursday, with a very close score.
Next week we will be focusing on Fraction of Amounts in maths so our times tables and division knowledge wiull come in very useful.
For art, we are moving on to perspective drawing (my favourite). Hopefully they will all enjoy it.
We also have a few guest speakers in next week, taking up most of the week. We will meet with a PCSO to talk about Knife Safety and we will have a few days to discuss, The importance of being Brilliant'. An exciting week ahead.
Just a reminder that the children need their PE kit permanently in school. It will be worth adding an extra fleece and jogging bottoms if we need to go outdoors. If any of the children have earrings, then they need to be able to remove them and replace them themselves if needed.
We are actively encouraging social distancing where we can, and the children are washing their hands regularly.
My name is Mr Ellis and I have just started with Offley this year. I began my teaching career in 2001 in Warrington after completing a P.G.C.E in East London. I have primarily taught in key stage 2 with 10 years in year 6.
I am most happy when outdoors, whether that is walking, running, or biking. I am slightly addicted to the stats on my Garmin watch and become a little bit obsessed with beating previous records.
Each year I try to set myself a physical challenge. To date, I have completed the National 3 Peaks Challenge, ran and walked the Sandstone trail Ultra and competed in a few mountain marathons. My favourite was Man v Mountain in Snowdonia.
Over the last few years, I have enjoyed gardening and get excited by the bumper crop of vegetables that I am able to pull out at the end of the season.
I am very much a believer that if you enjoy coming to school and feel happy and safe, you will want to learn. I will get to know the children in my class very quickly and work out what they all need to succeed …Of course, having fun in the process.
