6KW 2021 - 2022
Welcome to 6KW’s Class Page!
Hi! Welcome to our class; we can't wait to work with you this year!
On this page you'll find some information about your teachers and important information about your timetable as well as weekly updates, spellings and some homework.
Hello, my name is Miss Warren and this is my third year teaching at Offley and I am really excited to be staying in year 6 :-) After graduating with a degree in Education Studies, I completed the first half of my teacher training here at Offley and could not wait to become part of the team at this amazing school. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my friends, family and my very mischievous dog Tyson. I also love reading, yoga and travelling!
We are also very lucky to have the lovely Mrs. Walkley supporting both classes every morning :-)
Autumn Term Information
This term, our topic will be World War II!
Our text this half term is 'Star of Fear, Star of Hope' by Jo Hoestlandt. This amazing picture book touches upon the Holocaust with sensitivity and poignancy, helping the readers to understand this difficult event in history.
Each week I will update the website with information about what is currently being covered. I will also upload any homework or spellings given out that week. If you have any questions or queries feel free to see me at the end of the school day or contact me through the school office. Admin will then forward on any messages or arrange meetings at a mutually convenient time.
PE- This will take place on a MONDAY afternoon. The children will need indoor and outdoor kit.
Guided Reading - Every Friday we will teach a designated guided reading session that will use high quality texts linked to our usual English lessons.
Times tables tests - These will take place every Thursday morning.
Homework - Spellings will be given out every Friday, and will be tested the following Friday. Spellings and homework will be given out on the 17th September.
Week ending 17/9/21
We have had a very busy week in year 6 and we are loving being back in our class room!
In Maths, we have continued to focus on numbers to 10,000,000 and place value. The children are now really confident when representing numbers in a variety of ways including writing them in words and using place value discs. Towards the end of the week, we started to look at ordering and comparing numbers. I'm really impressed with the children's 'can do' attitudes this week, keep it up year 6!
In English, we are really enjoying our class text 'Star of Fear, Star of Hope' and had a great lesson hot seating one of the characters (Mrs. Keller) to find out more about her. We have written diary entries from the main character's viewpoint and have also planned a newspaper report which we will be writing next week!
In other areas of the curriculum, the children have thoroughly enjoyed starting their P.E lessons involving football and leadership skills, learning about and drawing a human heart in Science and deciding on a BIG question for our new WW2 topic: What would our lives have been like if we lived through WW2?
We are really missing the children who are currently at home isolating and we are looking forward to having you all back soon!
Have a lovely weekend.
