Year 1 2022 - 2023
Welcome to Year 1.
Year 1 Staff Members
1SA - Miss Allan
1CJ- Mrs Casey (Monday, Tuesday) Mrs Jones (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)
Our usual day for P.E is Thursday and this will start from week 2. The children will need to come to school wearing their full P.E kit on this day. If you have not bought the new style P.E kit, you will be expected to wear a plain white t-shirt with black shorts. Please ensure that hair is tied back and that earrings are removed.
Pencil cases will not be required, as school will provide all of the equipment needed.
iPads are expected in school each day as they form part of our daily learning, please ensure they are fully charged.
We will update this webpage every week with lots of information about what we have been learning in class and any other information that you will need.
I have been at Offley for 7 years and my subject responsiblity is Science working alongside Mrs Till. I have a little boy who is two and I love taking him on adventures with my two dogs. As well as Science, I love art and experimenting with different materials, using my imagination and creativity. I am very much looking forward to all of the learning opportunities we have to come in Year 1!
I have worked at Offley for 10 years and I am also one of the Assistant Headteachers at the school. I am the subject lead for English across the school and I am also the Senior Mental Health Lead. I have taught across most year groups from Year 1 to Year 6 and I am really looking forward to teaching Year 1 this year. I am married with two young children: Noah and Bella. I also have a cat called Lily and a young golden labrador called Gabriel who causes all sorts of chaos in the house! When I was growing up, my hobby was dancing which I did for over 20 years and I took part in lots of competitions and performed in shows at theatres across the country - I even performed in The Magic Kingdom in Florida. Nowadays, my hobby is running (when I'm not injured!) and I have completed three half marathons. I also enjoy days out with my family and going to the theatre with my friends.
I have been a teacher at Offley for the past 6 years. This year I am job sharing with Mrs Casey and I will be working on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays. My subject responsibility at Offley is Music. You will often see me dancing and singing up and down the corridors as well as leading choir and helping with performances throughout the year.
I live in Congleton with my husband and two boys who are currently in Year 5 and Year 1 at one of our local primary schools. We have two dogs Barney and Penny and we love to spend our time outdoors as well as going on holidays in our caravan. I am super excited to be working in Year 1 this year and I am sure we will be having lots of fun!
Week beginning 23rd January
In English this week we have read some more from ‘The Lion Inside’. We had to think of words to describe what the mouse needs to be to be more like the lion. We practised adding ‘er’ to the end of words: bigger, stronger, louder. We then wrote these into sentences such as ‘I need to be louder so that the others hear me’. We then learnt about exclamation sentences and practised using an exclamation mark. We finished off the week by making predictions about what will happen next in the story.
This week in Maths we have been learning all about 3D shapes. We have learnt their names and properties. We have compared them with 2D shapes and discussed the difference between them. We explored with what 2D shapes we find on 3D shape faces. We did this through lots of different ways: making 3D shapes out of nets, making shape shadows and 3D shape printing. We also sorted 3D shapes according to their faces.
In PE this week we have carried on adding to our dance on mini beasts. We are thinking about how each mini beast moves, exploring with those movements and then adding 16 counts onto to our dance from our last dance PE lesson.
Our second PE lesson was practising our dribbling skills and passing skills with hockey sticks and balls. We had to pass the hockey ball through the tunnel we created with our legs as a team.
This week we explored with printing. We used our hands to make some fun printing pictures!
In RE this week we have discussed more about the concept of lies. We used drama to explore with how people from other beliefs feel about lying.
In Music this week we have used our pictures from our sound hunt last week to create our own music scores. We thought about which instruments suited the sounds we heard. We then thought about playing the instruments in order using the score as a guide. At each picture we counted and played our instruments for 8 beats. We also recapped the vocabulary ‘pulse’ and ‘rhythm’.
In Science this week we begun our new unit called ‘Animals including humans’. We looked at all different types of animals and sorted them under their categories. We found it really interesting as we didn’t realise there were so many different types of animals.
Have a wonderful weekend Year 1.
