Year 1 2022 - 2023
Welcome to Year 1.
Year 1 Staff Members
1SA - Miss Allan
1CJ- Mrs Casey (Monday, Tuesday) Mrs Jones (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)
Our usual day for P.E is Thursday and this will start from week 2. The children will need to come to school wearing their full P.E kit on this day. If you have not bought the new style P.E kit, you will be expected to wear a plain white t-shirt with black shorts. Please ensure that hair is tied back and that earrings are removed.
Pencil cases will not be required, as school will provide all of the equipment needed.
iPads are expected in school each day as they form part of our daily learning, please ensure they are fully charged.
We will update this webpage every week with lots of information about what we have been learning in class and any other information that you will need.
I have been at Offley for 7 years and my subject responsiblity is Science working alongside Mrs Till. I have a little boy who is two and I love taking him on adventures with my two dogs. As well as Science, I love art and experimenting with different materials, using my imagination and creativity. I am very much looking forward to all of the learning opportunities we have to come in Year 1!
I have worked at Offley for 10 years and I am also one of the Assistant Headteachers at the school. I am the subject lead for English across the school and I am also the Senior Mental Health Lead. I have taught across most year groups from Year 1 to Year 6 and I am really looking forward to teaching Year 1 this year. I am married with two young children: Noah and Bella. I also have a cat called Lily and a young golden labrador called Gabriel who causes all sorts of chaos in the house! When I was growing up, my hobby was dancing which I did for over 20 years and I took part in lots of competitions and performed in shows at theatres across the country - I even performed in The Magic Kingdom in Florida. Nowadays, my hobby is running (when I'm not injured!) and I have completed three half marathons. I also enjoy days out with my family and going to the theatre with my friends.
I have been a teacher at Offley for the past 6 years. This year I am job sharing with Mrs Casey and I will be working on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays. My subject responsibility at Offley is Music. You will often see me dancing and singing up and down the corridors as well as leading choir and helping with performances throughout the year.
I live in Congleton with my husband and two boys who are currently in Year 5 and Year 1 at one of our local primary schools. We have two dogs Barney and Penny and we love to spend our time outdoors as well as going on holidays in our caravan. I am super excited to be working in Year 1 this year and I am sure we will be having lots of fun!
Week beginning 1st May
In English this week we have been writing up our own fantasy stories based on Toys In Space. We have thought about our own characters and have been using skills that we have learnt this term in our sentences. We have been using ‘and’ to join sentences, using ‘ed’ suffixes on verbs and also using adjectives to describe.
This week in Maths we have been learning about the days of the week and the months of the year. We have been practising ordering the days and also thinking about language such as ‘before’, ‘next’, ‘after’. We have thought about what month our birthdays are in and solved problems such as order our birthdays on our tables. We have also been looking at calendars and how to use them.
Peak Wildlife Zoo
On Tuesday we went to Peak Wildlife Zoo. We learnt a lot about the animals especially the Lemurs and Wallabys. We had such a fantastic day and we are really proud of the children’s behaviour on their first ever school trip. Well done Year 1!
In PE this week we have been consolidating all of our skills we have learnt this half term. We had a carousel of activities that included jumping, running and javelin throwing.
In PSHE we thought about what makes a good friend. We thought about things we like doing with our friends and also worked together to come up with our own friendship code. We decided to be a good friend we needed to use kind words, be fun, helpful and honest.
Have a fabulous half term!
