Year 1 2022 - 2023
Welcome to year 1. We all hope that you have had a lovely summer and are looking forward to starting the new school year. We are looking forward to seeing you all back.
Year 1 Staff Members
1SA - Miss Allan
1CJ- Mrs Casey (Monday, Tuesday) Mrs Jones (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)
Our usual day for P.E is Thursday and this will start from week 2. The children will need to come to school wearing their full P.E kit on this day. If you have not bought the new style P.E kit, you will be expected to wear a plain white t-shirt with black shorts. Please ensure that hair is tied back and that earrings are removed.
Pencil cases will not be required, as school will provide all of the equipment needed.
iPads are expected in school each day as they form part of our daily learning, please ensure they are fully charged.
Homework will also be uploaded onto this webpage and Showbie on Friday 16th September. The homework will consist of a grid of 12 activities and the children will choose 9 of them to do before the 28th November.
We will update this webpage every week with lots of information about what we have been learning in class and any other information that you will need.
I have been at Offley for 7 years and my subject responsiblity is Science working alongside Mrs Till. I have a little boy who is two and I love taking him on adventures with my two dogs. As well as Science, I love art and experimenting with different materials, using my imagination and creativity. I am very much looking forward to all of the learning opportunities we have to come in Year 1!
I have worked at Offley for 10 years and I am also one of the Assistant Headteachers at the school. I am the subject lead for English across the school and I am also the Senior Mental Health Lead. I have taught across most year groups from Year 1 to Year 6 and I am really looking forward to teaching Year 1 this year. I am married with two young children: Noah and Bella. I also have a cat called Lily and a young golden labrador called Gabriel who causes all sorts of chaos in the house! When I was growing up, my hobby was dancing which I did for over 20 years and I took part in lots of competitions and performed in shows at theatres across the country - I even performed in The Magic Kingdom in Florida. Nowadays, my hobby is running (when I'm not injured!) and I have completed three half marathons. I also enjoy days out with my family and going to the theatre with my friends.
I have been a teacher at Offley for the past 6 years. This year I am job sharing with Mrs Casey and I will be working on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays. My subject responsibility at Offley is Music. You will often see me dancing and singing up and down the corridors as well as leading choir and helping with performances throughout the year.
I live in Congleton with my husband and two boys who are currently in Year 5 and Year 1 at one of our local primary schools. We have two dogs Barney and Penny and we love to spend our time outdoors as well as going on holidays in our caravan. I am super excited to be working in Year 1 this year and I am sure we will be having lots of fun!
Week beginning 26th September
We have had another busy but great week in Year 1. Here is what we have been up to:
During maths this week, we have been learning about ordinal numbers. We have explored using vocabulary: first, second, third, fourth, fifth etc and have learnt to write them this way but also in number form such as: 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. We have used concrete objects to support our learning as well as having fun races outside to help us to understand each ordinal number position. We ended the week by using our problem solving to answer questions linked to ordinal numbers.
In English this week we have read some more from our Lost and Found story. We had to decide which items we would take to the South Pole. We used our phonics to help us to write words such as ‘scarf’, ‘boots’. We then read some more of the story and had to describe the stormy sea and waves. We thought about which adjectives best described the waves and then later in the week we wrote some super sentences to describe them. We really concentrated on using a capital letter at the start, finger spaces in between words and a full stop at the end. We came up with some exciting words such as ‘gigantic’ and ‘humungous’.
In Science we have continued our learning about materials and their properties. We looked at different materials and chose appropriate words to describe them. For example: wood is rough.
In RE we have learnt about stained glass windows and how they represent stories from the bible.
In PE this week we have continued practising our jumping skills. This week we had to try and jump a distance. We learnt how to bend our knees in preparation to jump as well as using our arms to help us to jump further. We also learnt how it is important to land with soft knees when jumping. We have some super jumpers in Year 1!
This week we have had Smartie the penguin to help us to understand the importance of e-safety. We learnt about how important it is to tell an adult if something appears on our tablets that we weren’t expecting.
In PSHE this week we have discussed the things we like and the things we don’t like. We discussed how everyone likes and dislikes different things and that is ok. We then talked about the things we CAN do. We celebrated lots of things we are all good at and again that it is ok for us to be good at different things.
We have been working really hard this week learning our song for our Harvest service next week. We cannot wait to go to church and perform our song.
WE REALLY ENJOYED FINISHING THE WEEK OFF DRESSED AS SUPER HEROES!
Have an amazing weekend and we look forward to another busy and fun week next week!
